During the Great Depression, Laura’s family struggled financially and emotionally with the news of Laura’s mother’s death in 1924 and her older sister’s death in 1928. A musical version of the books was performed at the Guthrie Theatre in Minnesota on July 26, 2008. A one-hour documentary film on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s life has also been made. Harper & Brothers later published the ninth book posthumously in 1971. Although Wilder’s plans remain unknown, the ninth book, titled The First Four Years, is considered the final book in the Little House series.
